Stradom

Stradom is the narrow district along Stradomska and Dietla streets, sandwiched between Wawel Hill, the Old Town and Kazimierz. It puts you within 10 minutes' walk of all three without the late-night noise of either the Main Square or Plac Nowy, and trams run along its main streets.

Good
Central yet calmer; Walk to Wawel and Kazimierz; Good tram connections
Watch out
Less atmosphere than the Old Town; Some busy traffic streets
Nearby
Wawel Castle, Kazimierz, Vistula boulevards

Romantic day trips

  • Zakopane and the Tatras (About 2–2.5 hours by bus or train) — Poland's mountain resort below the Tatras has wooden villas in the Zakopane style, the busy Krupówki street, a funicular up Gubałówka hill and a cable car to Kasprowy Wierch.
  • Tyniec Abbey (About 30–40 minutes by bus, or an hour by bike) — A Benedictine abbey founded in the 11th century on a limestone cliff above the Vistula, still home to monks who run a small museum and shop.

For dinner

Share local specialities such as Pierogi, Żurek and Bigos. Book dinner at popular Kazimierz restaurants on Friday and Saturday evenings.
