What to drink
- Polish vodka — Poland takes vodka seriously, from rye and potato vodkas to Żubrówka, flavoured with bison grass, and fruit-flavoured nalewki liqueurs. It is traditionally drunk chilled with a pickle or herring.

Getting home late
- Walking — The Main Square to Wawel is about 10 minutes on foot along Grodzka Street, and Kazimierz is about 15–20 minutes.
- Tram — Buy tickets from the machines on board or at stops with a contactless card, or use a ticketing app.
- Bus — MPK buses use the same tickets as trams and serve the suburbs and the airport, with night buses after trams stop.
- Ride-hailing — Bolt, Uber and FreeNow operate in Kraków and are inexpensive; they are safer than hailing unmarked cars on the street.
Late-night bites
- Zapiekanka — The hatches around the round market hall (Okrąglak) on Plac Nowy in Kazimierz, open late.
- Oscypek — Street stalls on the Main Square and at Christmas markets, and highland-style restaurants.
- Grilled kiełbasa — The sausage vans by the Hala Targowa market hall in the evening, and food stalls at markets and festivals.
Staying safe at night
Kraków is generally safe, but pickpockets work the Main Square, trams and the station area. Use ride-hailing apps or official taxis rather than unmarked cars, and ignore street promoters for bars and clubs. On still winter days, air quality can be poor; check local smog alerts if you have respiratory conditions.
