What to drink
- Kofola — A herbal cola created in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s, less sweet than Western colas and often served on draught in pubs.
- Small Carpathian wine — The vineyards just north of the city produce crisp Grüner Veltliner (Veltlínske zelené), Welschriesling (Rizling vlašský) and the red Frankovka modrá.

Getting home late
- Walking — From Michael's Gate to the cathedral is about ten minutes, and the castle is a steep five-minute climb from there.
- Tram — Buy a time-based ticket from a machine or the official transport app before boarding, and validate paper tickets on board.
- Bus — City buses go to Devín Castle from the Most SNP stop and to Koliba for the Kamzík tower; bus 61 links the airport and the main railway station.
- Ride-hailing — Ride-hailing apps operate in Bratislava and are a reliable way to avoid fare disputes with street taxis.
Late-night bites
- Lokše — Christmas market stalls in the Main Square and at summer food festivals.
- Langoš — Street stands, swimming pools, Danube-side kiosks and markets.
- Smoked sheep cheese — Market stalls, delicatessens and the Old Market Hall's Saturday market.
Staying safe at night
Bratislava is generally calm for visitors. Watch your belongings in crowded Old Town bars and at the Christmas markets, and use ride-hailing apps or agree a fare before taking a street taxi.
