Quick answer
Prague nights revolve around beer: classic pubs, craft-beer bars and summer beer gardens, plus jazz clubs, cocktail bars and large clubs in the Old Town. The Old Town draws stag parties; locals drink in Vinohrady, Žižkov and on the riverside. The main areas are Žižkov, Vinohrady, Old Town and Náplavka.

What to drink
- Czech beer — Czechs drink more beer per head than any other country, and pale lagers such as Pilsner Urquell, first brewed in Plzeň in 1842, set the style. Look for tankové pivo (unpasteurised tank beer) and try the foamy 'mlíko' pour.
- Becherovka — A herbal liqueur from Karlovy Vary flavoured with anise, cinnamon and a secret blend of herbs, drunk as a digestif or mixed with tonic as a 'beton'.
Evenings through the year
Sunset and the overnight low decide how long the outdoor part of a night lasts. July has the warmest evenings, with lows around 14°C (57°F).
| Month | Sunset (15th) | Overnight low | Rainy days |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | About 16:28 | -3°C (27°F) | 7 |
| April | About 19:55 | 4°C (39°F) | 6 |
| July | About 21:07 | 14°C (57°F) | 9 |
| October | About 18:11 | 5°C (41°F) | 6 |
Getting home late
- Tram — Validate paper tickets in the yellow machines when you board; inspectors fine passengers without a valid ticket.
- Metro — Three metro lines (A, B and C) cross the centre, with Můstek, Muzeum, Staroměstská and Malostranská covering most sights; trains run from about 5am to around midnight.
- Walking — The Old Town, Josefov, Malá Strana and New Town are all walkable; climbing to the castle takes about 20–30 minutes from Charles Bridge.
- Taxi — Use ride-hailing apps or taxis ordered by phone; street taxis waiting in tourist areas have a history of overcharging.
- Ferry — Small public river ferries cross the Vltava at several points and accept standard PID tickets.
Late-night bites
- Open sandwiches — Traditional delicatessens (lahůdky) and modern sandwich bars in the New Town and Vinohrady.
- Pickled cheese — Almost every traditional pub; it appears under 'beer snacks' (k pivu).
- Trdelník — Stands throughout the Old Town and Malá Strana; enjoy it as a snack, not as tradition.
Staying safe at night
Prague is generally safe, but pickpockets work crowds at the Astronomical Clock, on Charles Bridge and on trams. Avoid street money changers and unofficial taxis, and check restaurant bills carefully in tourist areas.
