West Bay

Doha's skyline of glass towers holds most of the big international hotels, many with private beaches, pools and licensed bars and restaurants. The Corniche promenade starts here, City Center Doha mall is in the middle of the district, and the Red Line metro runs through it to Msheireb and the airport.

Hotel beaches and pools; Metro access; Plenty of restaurants with alcohol licences
Watch out
Car-oriented streets; Little traditional character

Getting to the beaches

  • Metro — Driverless trains run on the Red, Green and Gold lines with clean, air-conditioned stations.
  • Tram — The Lusail Tram links Lusail's marina, boulevard and Place Vendôme mall; a free tram loops around Msheireb Downtown; and the Education City tram connects the campus buildings, library and Mathaf.
  • Bus — Free Metrolink feeder buses connect many metro stations with surrounding neighbourhoods, and Mowasalat (Karwa) runs public bus routes across the city.
  • Car — Roads are wide and fast, and a rental car is useful for Zubarah, Al Khor and the north.

Beach-weather months

Days of 24°C (75°F) or more with no more than nine rainy days come in March–December. The busiest of those is December, so book early.

Beach safety

Street crime is low, and the main risks are heat and road traffic. Drink plenty of water, limit midday walking from April to October, and cross roads at signals. Laws on public behaviour, alcohol and drugs are strict and enforced. Swim at lifeguarded beaches where possible and follow local flag warnings.
