1.Khor Al Adaid (Inland Sea)

In the far south-east of Qatar, tall sand dunes run straight down to a tidal inlet of the Gulf, with Saudi Arabia visible across the water. Tours stop at Sealine for camel rides and sandboarding, then drive over the dunes for a swim and lunch or an overnight desert camp.

Day-trip tips

  • Leave early: most trips are more relaxed with a morning departure and a return before dinner.
  • Free Metrolink feeder buses connect many metro stations with surrounding neighbourhoods, and Mowasalat (Karwa) runs public bus routes across the city.
  • For trips over about 150 km, an overnight stay or an organised tour saves a lot of travelling.
