Money-saving tips
- Use the metro: it is inexpensive, air-conditioned and reaches most sights, and feeder buses and the Msheireb tram are free.
- Souq Waqif, the Corniche, Katara, The Pearl and the Qatar National Library cost nothing to visit.
- Hotel rates drop sharply from June to September; luxury hotels often discount heavily for summer stopovers.
- Eat in Souq Waqif's smaller Indian, Yemeni and Persian restaurants or in Al Sadd for good meals at low prices.
- Alcohol is expensive and only available in licensed venues; happy hours in hotel bars lower the cost.
- Share a 4x4 desert tour with other travellers rather than booking a private one.

- Katara Cultural Village — A seafront cultural district between West Bay and The Pearl with a Greek-style amphitheatre, galleries, a mosque covered in blue and turquoise tiles, a gold-tiled mosque, traditional pigeon towers and restaurants.
- The Pearl and Qanat Quartier — The artificial island of The Pearl has Porto Arabia's marina promenade lined with cafés and luxury boutiques and Qanat Quartier, a Venice-inspired quarter of pastel houses, canals and footbridges.
