What to drink
- Horchata and fartons — A chilled, milky drink made from tiger nuts grown around Alboraya, just north of the city, served with fartons, long glazed sweet buns for dunking. It is a summer afternoon ritual.
- Agua de Valencia — A cocktail of fresh orange juice, cava, vodka and gin, served in jugs to share. It is stronger than it tastes.
Evenings through the year

Getting home late
- Metro — Buy a rechargeable travel card at a machine rather than single paper tickets if you will make several journeys.
- Tram — Tram line 4 runs through Benimaclet to the Malvarrosa beach; other tram lines serve the port and the Marina.
- Bus — EMT buses cover the whole city, including the City of Arts and Sciences and the beaches, and line 25 runs south to the Albufera and El Palmar.
- Walking — The old town is compact; the walk from the cathedral to the City of Arts and Sciences through the Turia Gardens takes about 40 minutes.
Late-night bites
- Pumpkin fritters — Street stalls across the city during Fallas in March, and some horchaterías in winter.
Staying safe at night
Pickpocketing occurs in the old town, the Mercado Central, on the metro and on crowded beaches, so keep valuables out of sight. In autumn, heavy storms can cause sudden flash flooding in the region; follow official weather alerts and avoid riverbeds and underpasses during warnings.

Calle Caballeros and the streets around Plaza del Tossal fill with bars at night, and the IVAM modern art museum and the Turia Gardens are on its edge.

- Characterful streets and street art; Lively bars and cheap eats; Close to the Turia Gardens
- Watch out
