El Cabanyal and Malvarrosa

The old fishing district of El Cabanyal runs in long parallel streets towards the sea, its low houses decorated with colourful ceramic tiles. Old taverns serve seafood and tapas, and the Malvarrosa and Las Arenas beaches with their paella restaurants are on the promenade. Tram line 4 and buses connect it to the centre in about 20–30 minutes.

Beach-weather months

Days of 24°C (75°F) or more with no more than nine rainy days come in May–October. None of them is peak season, so beaches stay manageable.

Beach safety

Pickpocketing occurs in the old town, the Mercado Central, on the metro and on crowded beaches, so keep valuables out of sight. In autumn, heavy storms can cause sudden flash flooding in the region; follow official weather alerts and avoid riverbeds and underpasses during warnings. Swim at lifeguarded beaches where possible and follow local flag warnings.
