Getting to the beaches

  • Bus — EMT Palma buses cover the city, including routes to Cala Major, the Platja de Palma and the airport line A1.
  • Train — The vintage Sóller train runs from its own station near Plaça d'Espanya through the mountains to Sóller, and SFM trains link the Estació Intermodal with Inca, Sa Pobla and Manacor.
  • Car — Hiring a car is the easiest way to reach remote beaches and mountain villages, though parking in central Palma is scarce and expensive.

Beach-weather months

Days of 24°C (75°F) or more with no more than nine rainy days come in June–October. The busiest of those is July, so book early.

Beach safety

Pickpocketing occurs around the cathedral, on crowded buses and on beaches, and distraction thefts target tourists on the Platja de Palma, so keep valuables close. In summer, protect yourself from the sun and watch for flag warnings at beaches with strong currents. Swim at lifeguarded beaches where possible and follow local flag warnings.
