La Seu cathedral, Royal Palace of La Almudaina, Arab Baths and Old town courtyards, then Santa Catalina market and quarter in the evening.
Morning
La Seu cathedral
Inside, one of the largest Gothic rose windows in the world floods the nave with colour, Gaudí designed the iron canopy over the altar, and Miquel Barceló covered a side chapel with a ceramic mural of loaves, fish and sea creatures.
Late morning
Royal Palace of La Almudaina
Visitors see the Gothic royal chapel of Santa Anna, tapestried halls and a courtyard with views over the bay.
Lunch
Lunch: Ensaïmada
Historic bakeries and cafés across the old town; boxed ensaïmadas are also sold at the airport.
Afternoon
Arab Baths
The visit is short but atmospheric.
Late afternoon
Old town courtyards
Many can be glimpsed through open gates in the streets around Carrer de la Portella, Carrer de Can Savellà and the Basílica de Sant Francesc, and the Plaça de Cort town hall square has an ancient olive tree.
Evening
Santa Catalina market and quarter
Have breakfast or a mid-morning tapa at the market bars, then return for dinner in the evening.
Day 2: Bellver Castle and Es Baluard
Bellver Castle, Es Baluard, Fundació Miró Mallorca and Basílica de Sant Francesc, then La Lonja in the evening.
Morning
Bellver Castle
It sits in pine woods on a hill about 3 km west of the centre, houses the Museum of the History of Palma and has the best panoramic views over the city and the bay.
Late morning
Es Baluard
Its rampart terraces give wide views over the marina and the cathedral.
Lunch
Lunch: Sobrassada
Market stalls at the Mercat de l'Olivar and delicatessens in the old town.
Afternoon
Fundació Miró Mallorca
His foundation includes the light-filled studio designed for him by Josep Lluís Sert, which is left as if he had just stepped out, an older farmhouse studio with charcoal sketches on the walls, and a gallery of his work.
Late afternoon
Basílica de Sant Francesc
It holds the tomb of Ramon Llull, the 13th-century Mallorcan philosopher and writer, and a statue of the missionary Junípero Serra stands outside.
Evening
La Lonja
Tapas bars, wine bars and small pubs on Carrer dels Apuntadors and around Sa Llotja, busy every evening.
Before you go
- La Seu cathedral: Buy tickets online in summer to skip the ticket queue, especially on cruise-ship days.
If it rains
- Swap in CaixaForum Palma (Old Town): Pop in to see the restored modernist façade and lobby, and check what temporary exhibition is on.
- Swap in Palma Aquarium (Platja de Palma and Can Pastilla): Combine it with a beach afternoon at Can Pastilla, a short walk or bus ride away.
Where to stay for this itinerary
$$$$ · Best for first-timers, couples, culture and luxury
Old Town
Medieval lanes, stone mansions and courtyards behind the cathedral
Pace and daylight
The sights in this plan add up to roughly 10–13 hours of visiting over 2 days, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 9.4 hours in December to 14.9 hours in June, so in winter start early and keep museums for the afternoon.
Getting between stops: Walking. The cathedral, old town, La Lonja and Santa Catalina are all within about 15 minutes of each other on foot.
