Quick answer
Tangier's nightlife is low-key: hotel bars, a few historic bars and restaurants in the Ville Nouvelle, and evening strolls on the Corniche. Cafés stay busy late, especially in summer and during Ramadan. The main areas are Ville Nouvelle, Corniche and Tanja Marina Bay and Grand Socco.

Evenings through the year
Sunset and the overnight low decide how long the outdoor part of a night lasts. July has the warmest evenings, with lows around 19°C (66°F).

|---|---|---|---|
| January | About 18:32 | 8°C (46°F) | 10 |

Getting home late
- Walking — Walking is the only way around the medina and kasbah, and the Ville Nouvelle is a short walk uphill from the Grand Socco.
- Taxi — Ask the driver to use the meter in a petit taxi, and agree the price beforehand in a grand taxi.
- Bus — City buses connect the centre with outlying districts, the beaches and the Caves of Hercules in summer, but routes are confusing for first-time visitors.
- Ferry — Fast ferries from the city port at Tanja Marina Bay cross to Tarifa in Spain in about an hour; most other ferries to Spain use the larger Tanger Med port, about 40 km east.
Late-night bites
- Kalinte — Street carts and bakeries in the medina and around the Grand Socco, served hot.
Staying safe at night
Check your own government's travel advice before travel. The most common problems are persistent unofficial guides and touts around the port and medina entrances, and pickpocketing in crowded areas; use metered petit taxis and keep valuables zipped away.
- Emergency number
- 19 police, 15 ambulance and fire (112 from mobiles)
