Kitahama and Nakanoshima
Nakanoshima is a narrow island between the Dojima and Tosabori rivers, home to the Osaka City Central Public Hall, the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, the National Museum of Art and Nakanoshima Museum of Art, and a rose garden at its eastern tip. Kitahama, across the river, has converted bank buildings and riverside cafés. It is calm, central and well connected.

Romantic day trips
- Kyoto (About 15–45 minutes by train) — Japan's former imperial capital has Fushimi Inari's torii gates, Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji and the geisha district of Gion.
- Kobe (About 25 minutes by train) — A port city between the sea and Mount Rokko, Kobe has a lively Chinatown, the Kitano district of 19th-century foreign merchants' houses, a harbourfront and, of course, Kobe beef.
- Arima Onsen (About 1 hour by bus) — One of Japan's oldest hot-spring towns, on the north side of Mount Rokko, Arima has iron-rich 'gold' and clear 'silver' springs, public bathhouses and ryokan for day bathing.
For dinner
Share local specialities such as Okonomiyaki, Kushikatsu and Kitsune udon. Some smaller restaurants and stalls take cash only; carry yen.
