Getting home late

  • Ride-hailing — Uber and Careem are widely used and the most practical way to move between Al-Balad, the Corniche, Tahlia Street and Obhur.
  • Taxi — Licensed taxis wait at the airport, hotels and malls; use the meter or agree the fare before departure.
  • Bus — Jeddah's public bus network covers main roads across the city, including routes to Al-Balad, but services are slower than ride-hailing and better suited to patient travellers.
  • Walking — Al-Balad's lanes and the Corniche promenades are pleasant on foot in the cooler months and after sunset; daytime walking in summer is hard work.

Late-night bites

  • Mutabbaq — Street griddles in Al-Balad and long-established snack shops in the older districts, busiest in the evening.
  • Balila — Street carts in Al-Balad and around the souqs.

Staying safe at night

The main risks are heat and humidity, fast traffic and occasional strong currents on unsupervised beaches. Drink plenty of water, cross roads at signals and swim where lifeguards are present.
