Quick answer
Abu Dhabi's nightlife is quieter than Dubai's and centred on hotels and waterfront districts, with lounges, terrace bars and live music rather than large clubs. Evenings outdoors are best from October to April. The main areas are Yas Bay Waterfront, Al Maryah Island, Corniche and Ras Al Akhdar hotels and Saadiyat Island resorts.

What to drink
- Arabic coffee and dates — Lightly roasted coffee brewed with cardamom and sometimes saffron, poured from a dallah into small handleless cups and served with dates as a gesture of welcome.
- Karak chai — Strong tea boiled with evaporated milk, sugar and cardamom, brought by South Asian workers and now the everyday drink of the Gulf.
Evenings through the year
Sunset and the overnight low decide how long the outdoor part of a night lasts. July has the warmest evenings, with lows around 29°C (84°F).

|---|---|---|---|
| January | About 17:55 | 13°C (55°F) | 2 |

Getting home late
- Taxi — Carry small notes; many drivers accept cards, but not all.
- Ride-hailing — Uber and Careem operate in Abu Dhabi and can book both taxis and private cars, with fares shown upfront.
- Bus — Bus shelters on the main island are air-conditioned, which helps in summer.
- Walking — The Corniche and the waterfronts at Yas Bay, Al Maryah Island and Saadiyat are pleasant on foot from November to March; the city as a whole is too spread out to walk between districts.
Late-night bites
- Shawarma — Lebanese and Syrian cafeterias in Al Khalidiyah, Al Zahiyah and along Hamdan Street.
Staying safe at night
Street crime is low, and the main risks are heat, sun and road traffic. Drink plenty of water, avoid long outdoor walks at midday from April to October, and take care crossing wide roads. Local laws on public behaviour, drugs and alcohol are strict, so respect them.
- Emergency number
- 999 police, 998 ambulance, 997 fire
