Quick answer
Riyadh's nightlife has no bars or alcohol; instead, the city stays up late in cafés, restaurants, concerts and Riyadh Season venues, with streets busiest between 9pm and midnight and many places open until the early hours. The main areas are Tahlia Street, Bujairi Terrace and Diriyah, Boulevard City and Hittin and Al Malqa.

What to drink
- Saudi coffee — Lightly roasted coffee brewed with cardamom and often saffron or cloves, giving a pale golden colour. It is poured in small amounts into handleless cups (finjan) and served with dates as a gesture of hospitality.
Evenings through the year

Getting home late
- Metro — Use a contactless bank card or the official app for fares; check routes before travelling, as some stations are far apart.
- Ride-hailing — Uber and Careem are widely used and are the most practical way to reach Diriyah, the souqs and restaurants not near a metro station.
- Taxi — Licensed taxis are available at the airport, hotels and malls; insist on the meter or agree the fare before departure.
- Bus — The Riyadh Bus network runs air-conditioned buses on many main roads and feeds the metro, but routes are long and best for patient travellers.
- Walking — Walking works within KAFD, along Tahlia Street, in the old souqs around the Masmak Fortress and in Diriyah, but the heat makes it difficult in daytime from May to September.
Late-night bites
- Mutabbaq — Street stalls and casual cafeterias across the city, especially in the evening.
- Shawarma — Shawarma counters on almost every commercial street, open late into the night.
- Dates — Specialist date shops and the dates sections of large supermarkets and souqs.
Staying safe at night
The main risks for visitors are heat exhaustion and fast, aggressive traffic. Carry water, avoid midday walks in summer and use pedestrian crossings and bridges.
- Emergency number
