Getting home late

  • Metro — Use a T-money or Cashbee card, which works on the subway, buses and in taxis nationwide.
  • Bus — City buses reach places the subway misses, including Gamcheon Culture Village, Taejongdae and Haedong Yonggungsa; stops are announced in English and Korean.
  • Taxi — Taxis are often quicker than the subway between Nampo-dong, Gamcheon and Songdo.
  • Walking — Nampo-dong's markets, the beachfronts and coastal trails such as Igidae and Dongbaek Island are best on foot, but expect steep hills in older neighbourhoods.

Late-night bites

  • Fish cake — Long-established fish cake shops in Yeongdo and at Busan Station, and street stalls in Nampo-dong.
  • Seed-filled pancake — Stalls at BIFF Square in Nampo-dong; follow the queue.
  • Spicy glass noodles — Food alleys in Gukje Market and Bupyeong Kkangtong Market.

Staying safe at night

Busan is generally safe for visitors, with low street crime. Take care with rip currents and follow lifeguard flags on beaches, especially after storms, and stay off rocky shorelines in high waves during typhoon warnings.
