Paying and bargaining
Prices are in TRY. Leaving about 5–10% in restaurants is customary if service is not already included. Round up taxi fares, and a small tip for hotel staff and boat crews is appreciated.
- Accepting a glass of tea in a shop is a polite gesture and does not oblige you to buy.
- Haggling is expected in bazaars and souvenir shops, but not in supermarkets or restaurants.
- Withdraw cash from bank ATMs rather than independent machines, and decline dynamic currency conversion.
When to shop
Shops and markets are quietest in December–February; the busiest months are July–August.
- September: Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival — performances in the Roman theatre (in recent years late summer)
- October: Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival (usually October)
