Konyaaltı

West of the centre, Konyaaltı's 7 km pebble beach is backed by a landscaped beach park with cafés, playgrounds and cycle paths. Mid-range hotels and apartments line the parallel streets, and the Antalya Museum and Antalya Aquarium are close by. The water deepens quickly, and the snow-capped Taurus Mountains form the backdrop in spring.

Good
City beach with mountain views; Good for families; Tram and buses to Kaleiçi
Watch out
Pebbles rather than sand; Steep shelf into deep water; Less character than Kaleiçi
Nearby
Antalya Museum, Antalya Aquarium, Tünektepe cable car

Getting to the beaches

  • Tram — The AntRay light-rail lines link the intercity bus station (otogar), the city centre and the airport, and a nostalgic tram runs along the seafront avenues from near Zerdalilik past Kaleiçi to the Antalya Museum.
  • Bus — City buses run to Konyaaltı, Lara, the Düden waterfalls and residential districts, and intercity coaches from the otogar reach Side, Kemer, Olympos and beyond.
  • Car — A hire car makes it easy to combine Perge, Aspendos and Side, or Termessos and Phaselis, in a day, and coastal roads are good.
  • Boat — Tour boats from the old harbour run trips to the Lower Düden Waterfall and bays along the coast, from one hour to a full day.

Beach-weather months

Days of 24°C (75°F) or more with no more than nine rainy days come in May–October. The busiest of those is July, so book early.

Beach safety

Antalya is generally relaxed for visitors. The main risks are summer heat and sunburn, strong currents on windy days, and overcharging by touts, unofficial guides and taxis that avoid the meter. Keep an eye on valuables on busy beaches and in the bazaar. Swim at lifeguarded beaches where possible and follow local flag warnings.
