Day by day

  1. Day 1: Kaleiçi old town and Hadrian's Gate

Kaleiçi old town, Hadrian's Gate, Yivli Minaret and Old harbour boat trip, then The Land of Legends in the evening.

    1. Morning

      Kaleiçi old town

It runs downhill from the Clock Tower and Hadrian's Gate to a horseshoe harbour under cliffs, now full of gulets and tour boats.

    2. Late morning

      Hadrian's Gate

Its paving still shows ruts worn by cart wheels, now covered by protective glass in places.

    3. Lunch

      Lunch: Antalya-style piyaz

Köfte-and-piyaz restaurants around the Kalekapısı and city-centre streets; ask for 'piyaz ve şiş köfte'.

    4. Afternoon

      Yivli Minaret

It stands at the top of the old town beside a mosque, a Mevlevi dervish lodge and Seljuk tombs.

    5. Late afternoon

      Old harbour boat trip

The views back to Kaleiçi and the Taurus Mountains are one of the best ways to understand the city's setting.

    6. Evening

      The Land of Legends

Stay for the evening show; many hotels in Belek and Lara run transfers.

  2. Day 2: Antalya Museum and Konyaaltı Beach

Antalya Museum, Konyaaltı Beach, Antalya Aquarium and Tünektepe cable car, then Kaleiçi in the evening.

    1. Morning

      Antalya Museum

It is about 2 km west of Kaleiçi on the nostalgic tram line.

    2. Late morning

      Konyaaltı Beach

The water is clear and deep close to shore, and the Taurus Mountains rise straight up across the bay.

    3. Lunch

      Lunch: Şiş köfte

Long-running köfte restaurants in the city centre, where locals lunch.

    4. Afternoon

      Antalya Aquarium

The complex also includes extra attractions such as a snow-themed hall, sold as combined tickets.

    5. Late afternoon

      Tünektepe cable car

The panorama takes in the whole curve of the bay, the city and the Taurus Mountains.

    6. Evening

      Kaleiçi

Bars with live Turkish and rock music, courtyard pubs and terraces above the old harbour.

Before you go

Antalyakart

A rechargeable transport card used on trams and city buses; sold at kiosks and machines at main stops.

If it rains

  • Swap in Suna and İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum (Kaleiçi): Pair it with lunch in a nearby courtyard restaurant; it takes under an hour and is a good escape from the midday heat.

Where to stay for this itinerary

$$ · Best for first-timers, couples, culture and nightlife

Kaleiçi

Walled old town of Ottoman houses, boutique hotels and the old Roman harbour

Pace and daylight

The sights in this plan add up to roughly 19–30 hours of visiting over 2 days, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 9.6 hours in December to 14.7 hours in June, so in winter start early and keep museums for the afternoon.

Getting between stops: Tram. The AntRay light-rail lines link the intercity bus station (otogar), the city centre and the airport, and a nostalgic tram runs along the seafront avenues from near Zerdalilik past Kaleiçi to the Antalya Museum.
