Where couples should stay
$$$$ · Best for couples, luxury and beach
Positano
Positano is the coast's most photographed town, its houses tumbling down to Spiaggia Grande and the majolica-tiled dome of Santa Maria Assunta. Boutiques selling linen and made-to-measure sandals line the lanes, and ferries leave from the beach. Almost every street is a staircase, and hotels range from simple guesthouses to some of Italy's most celebrated luxury properties.
- Good
- Iconic views from almost every terrace; Beaches and boat departures in town; Excellent restaurants
- Watch out
- Very expensive in summer; Hundreds of steps and steep lanes; Crowded with day-trippers
- Nearby
- Spiaggia Grande, Fornillo, Nocelle, Santa Maria Assunta
Romantic day trips
- Capri (About 30–60 minutes by ferry) — The island of Capri, across the water from Positano, has the Faraglioni sea stacks, the Blue Grotto, the Gardens of Augustus and the hilltop village of Anacapri with its chairlift up Monte Solaro.
For dinner
Share local specialities such as Scialatielli ai frutti di mare, Colatura di alici and Ndunderi. Eat at least one meal in a less famous town such as Cetara, Minori or Agerola for better value and local cooking.
