Quick answer
Nights in San Sebastián revolve around bars rather than clubs: pintxos and drinks from about 8pm, then bars that stay open late in the Parte Vieja and Gros. Summer weekends and festival weeks are busiest. The main areas are Parte Vieja, Gros and Calle Reyes Católicos.

- Respect the noise rules in the old town; neighbours live directly above the bars.

What to drink
- Txakoli — A light, slightly sparkling and often low-alcohol white wine from Getaria and the Gipuzkoa coast, poured from a height into a wide glass to lift the bubbles.
- Basque cider — Dry, still and tart natural cider made from Basque apples. In cider houses it is caught straight from the barrel into the glass from a thin jet when someone shouts 'txotx'.
Evenings through the year
Sunset and the overnight low decide how long the outdoor part of a night lasts. August has the warmest evenings, with lows around 17°C (63°F).
| Month | Sunset (15th) | Overnight low | Rainy days |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | About 17:57 | 5°C (41°F) | 14 |
| April | About 20:50 | 8°C (46°F) | 14 |
| July | About 21:46 | 16°C (61°F) | 8 |
| October | About 19:25 | 12°C (54°F) | 12 |
Getting home late
- Walking — The walk from Zurriola in Gros through the Parte Vieja and along La Concha to the Peine del Viento is about 4 km and links almost every sight.
- Bus — Pay by contactless card on board or use a Mugi transport card for cheaper fares across buses and trains.
- Taxi — Taxis wait at ranks around the Boulevard and the stations and can be booked by phone; they are useful for cider houses in Astigarraga or Hernani at night.
Late-night bites
- Gilda — On the counter of almost every Parte Vieja bar; old-school bars on Calle 31 de Agosto and Calle Fermín Calbetón keep the classic version.
Staying safe at night
San Sebastián is generally low-risk for visitors, but pickpockets and bag thieves work the crowded Parte Vieja bars and the beaches in summer. At Zurriola and other open beaches, rip currents can be strong; swim between the flags and respect red flags.

La Concha beach is a two-minute walk away.
