Getting around Mykonos
Public transport, passes, airport connections and when a car makes sense.

Quick answer
Mykonos is small, about 15 km end to end, but its beaches are spread around the coast. KTEL buses link Chora with the main beaches, sea taxis run along the south coast, and many visitors hire a car, scooter or ATV. Taxis are limited in high season. Not essential if you stay in Chora or on a bus-served beach, but a car or scooter makes the north-coast beaches, Ano Mera and the lighthouse much easier to reach.

Ways to get around
Bus
KTEL buses leave Chora from two terminals: one for the south-coast beaches such as Ornos, Platis Gialos and Paradise, and one near the Old Port for the north and east, including Ano Mera and Kalafatis.
Check which terminal your bus uses; timetables are posted at the stops and online.
Boat
Sea taxis run from Platis Gialos along the south coast to Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari and Elia, and small boats leave the Old Port for Delos.
Taxi
There are relatively few taxis for the number of visitors, so queues are long in summer.
Pre-book airport and port transfers in July and August.
Scooter
Scooters, ATVs and small cars are widely rented. Roads are narrow, winding and busy, so ride carefully and wear a helmet.
Walking
Chora is entirely walkable and largely car-free; Little Venice, the windmills and the Old Port are within ten minutes of each other.
From the airport
Mykonos Airport is about 4 km southeast of Chora, a 10-minute drive. Taxis and pre-booked transfers meet flights; queues can be long in summer. Ferries use the Old Port in Chora or the New Port at Tourlos about 2 km north, so check which port your ticket names.
Do you need a car?
Not essential if you stay in Chora or on a bus-served beach, but a car or scooter makes the north-coast beaches, Ano Mera and the lighthouse much easier to reach.
