Day by day
Day 1: Little Venice and Kato Mili windmills
Little Venice, Kato Mili windmills, Panagia Paraportiani and Archaeological Museum of Mykonos, then Paradise and Super Paradise beaches in the evening.
Morning
Little Venice
Bars and restaurants fill the ground floors, and on windy days waves splash the tables. It is the island's classic sunset spot.
Late morning
Kato Mili windmills
They frame views over Chora, Little Venice and the sea.
Lunch
Lunch: Kopanisti
Traditional tavernas in Chora and Ano Mera; delicatessens sell it in tubs.
Afternoon
Panagia Paraportiani
Its asymmetrical, rounded shape makes it one of the most photographed churches in Greece.
Late afternoon
Archaeological Museum of Mykonos
Its prize is a 7th-century BC storage jar decorated with one of the earliest known depictions of the Trojan Horse.
Evening
Paradise and Super Paradise beaches
Take a sea taxi from Platis Gialos instead of driving; parking is scarce in July and August.
Day 2: Delos and Aegean Maritime Museum
Delos, Aegean Maritime Museum, Chora's lanes and Matoyianni street and Armenistis Lighthouse, then Little Venice in the evening.
Morning
Delos
Today it is an open-air archaeological site with the Terrace of the Lions, mosaic-floored houses, temples and a theatre, plus a museum holding the original lion statues.
Late morning
Aegean Maritime Museum
The old lantern mechanism from the Armenistis lighthouse stands in the garden.
Lunch
Lunch: Louza
Taverna meze platters and local delicatessens.
Afternoon
Chora's lanes and Matoyianni street
Matoyianni, the main street, is lined with boutiques, jewellers and bars, while the side lanes hide chapels, bougainvillea-draped staircases and small squares. Petros the pelican, the island's mascot, often wanders the harbour.
Late afternoon
Armenistis Lighthouse
It is one of the quietest places on the island to watch the sun go down.
Evening
Little Venice
Sunset cocktail bars right on the water.
Before you go
- Delos: Boats leave from Mykonos Old Port and can be cancelled in strong wind; buy boat and site tickets in advance in high season.
Where to stay for this itinerary
$$$$ · Best for first-timers, nightlife, couples and shopping
Mykonos Town (Chora)
The island's whitewashed main town of lanes, chapels, shops and bars
Pace and daylight
The sights in this plan add up to roughly 11–15 hours of visiting over 2 days, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 9.6 hours in December to 14.7 hours in June, so in winter start early and keep museums for the afternoon.
Getting between stops: Bus. KTEL buses leave Chora from two terminals: one for the south-coast beaches such as Ornos, Platis Gialos and Paradise, and one near the Old Port for the north and east, including Ano Mera and Kalafatis.
