Before you go
If it rains
- Swap in Tirol Panorama (Wilten): Visit with the Bergisel Ski Jump next door on the same afternoon.
- Swap in Schloss Ambras (Amras): Take the shuttle or tram and bus from the centre and allow time for the park.
- Swap in Innsbruck Cathedral (Altstadt): Look up at the painted dome illusions before approaching the altar.
Where to stay for this itinerary
$$$ · Best for first-timers, couples and culture
Altstadt
Gothic arcades, painted façades and the Golden Roof within the old town ring
Pace and daylight
The sights in this plan add up to roughly 3–4 hours of visiting over one day, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 8.5 hours in December to 15.9 hours in June, so in winter start early and keep museums for the afternoon.
Getting between stops: Walking. Walking covers the old town, the Hofburg, the Hofgarten, the Inn riverside and the station; Wilten and Bergisel are about 20–25 minutes from the old town on foot.
