The 13 best things to do
Beach · Grace Bay
1.Grace Bay Beach
Provo's signature beach runs for several kilometres along the north shore with soft white sand and calm turquoise water, sheltered by the barrier reef offshore. The water is part of Princess Alexandra National Park, and public access paths between the resorts let anyone use the beach.
Walk east towards Leeward in the morning for the quietest stretches, and use the marked public access paths if you are not staying on the beach.

2.Bight Reef (Coral Gardens)
A marked snorkel trail a short swim off the beach at The Bight, where coral heads attract reef fish, rays and frequently sea turtles. The water is shallow and usually calm, making it one of the easiest snorkelling spots in the islands.
Go early in the morning when the water is calmest and turtles are most active, and float rather than stand to protect the coral.

3.Smith's Reef
Near Turtle Cove, Smith's Reef has larger, healthier coral formations than Bight Reef, with turtles, eagle rays and reef fish. Entry is from small beach access points along the road, and markers guide snorkellers along the reef.
Check the conditions before swimming out, as boat traffic from the marina channel passes nearby, and snorkel with a buddy.

Nature · Chalk Sound and Taylor Bay
4.Chalk Sound National Park
A shallow inland lagoon of milky turquoise water dotted with small rocky islets, protected as a national park in southwest Provo. Kayaks and paddleboards are the way to explore, and there is no swimming beach in the sound itself.
Rent a clear-bottomed kayak or paddleboard in the morning, when the wind is lighter and the water colour is strongest.

Beach · Chalk Sound and Taylor Bay
5.Sapodilla Bay
A small, sheltered bay on Provo's south coast with calm, knee-to-waist-deep water and soft sand, popular with families and locals. Boats anchor offshore and the water stays calm when the north shore is windy.
Visit on a weekday morning, as the bay is busy with locals and boats at weekends.

6.Sapodilla Hill rock carvings
On the hill above Sapodilla Bay, shipwrecked sailors and stranded travellers carved names, dates and ship drawings into the limestone from the 18th and 19th centuries. A short, rocky path leads up from the beach to the carvings and a view over the bay.
Climb up in the late afternoon for softer light on the carvings and a view of the south coast, and wear sturdy shoes.

Beach · Chalk Sound and Taylor Bay
7.Taylor Bay
Next to Sapodilla Bay, Taylor Bay has extraordinarily shallow, clear water that stays knee-deep for a long way out, with almost no waves. It is quieter than Sapodilla and ideal for toddlers.
Bring shade and snacks; there are no facilities, and the shallow water is perfect for wading at low tide.

Beach · Long Bay
8.Long Bay Beach
A long, shallow beach on the southeast coast where steady easterly trade winds and flat water make Provo's kiteboarding centre. Several kite schools offer lessons, and the beach is quiet away from the kite area.
Book a kiteboarding lesson in the windier months from about November to June; beginners learn quickly in the flat, shallow water.

1.Iguana Island and Half Moon Bay
Little Water Cay, off Provo's east end, is a protected reserve for the endangered Turks and Caicos rock iguana, viewed from boardwalks. Nearby Half Moon Bay is a curving sandbar between Little Water Cay and Water Cay, a classic stop on half-day boat trips.
Stay on the boardwalks and do not feed the iguanas; combine the visit with a swim at Half Moon Bay on a boat tour from Leeward.

2.Cheshire Hall Plantation
The stone ruins of a cotton plantation founded by Loyalists from the American colonies in the late 18th century, managed by the Turks and Caicos National Trust. A short trail with signs explains plantation life and the enslaved people who worked the land.
Visit with a National Trust guide if possible; the signs are brief, and the guided stories bring the ruins to life.

Provo's remote northwest corner, reached by rough tracks, has dramatic wall dives where the reef drops into deep water, and the quiet Malcolm's Road Beach. Dive boats from Turtle Cove reach the walls in about 30–45 minutes.
Visit by dive boat rather than driving the rough roads unless you have a suitable vehicle and local advice.

4.Island Fish Fry at Bight Park
A weekly evening gathering at Bight Park where local vendors cook fried fish, jerk chicken and conch, with live music, junkanoo performers and craft stalls. It is the easiest way to taste local food and culture in the Grace Bay area.
Arrive early in the evening for the shortest food queues, and bring cash for the stalls.

Combine it with a walk along Front Street's colonial buildings and the old salt ponds on a Grand Turk day trip.
