What to drink
- Qvevri wine — Wine fermented and aged in large clay vessels buried in the ground, a method listed by UNESCO. White grapes made this way become amber wine with tannin and depth; red Saperavi is the best-known grape.
- Chacha — A strong grape-pomace brandy, often homemade, offered as a welcome drink and in toasts at feasts.
- Lagidze waters — Sweet, brightly coloured soda waters made with natural syrups, such as tarragon, cream and pear, a Tbilisi tradition since the early 20th century.

Getting home late
- Metro — Tap your card on entry; the same card works on buses and the Narikala cable car.
- Bus — Use a mapping app to find routes; signs are mostly in Georgian.
- Ride-hailing — Use the app rather than hailing street taxis to avoid overcharging.
- Walking — The Old Town, Sololaki, Rustaveli Avenue and Rike Park are within walking distance, but expect steep streets and uneven pavements.
Late-night bites
- Churchkhela — Market stalls, Dezerter Bazaar and street vendors in the Old Town.
Staying safe at night
Tbilisi is generally relaxed for visitors. The main risks are fast, unpredictable traffic, uneven pavements and steep cobbles, and occasional overcharging in bars or by unlicensed taxis. Stray dogs are common; most are tagged and vaccinated, but keep your distance.
