Ways to get around
Bus
Public buses on Mahé and Praslin are cheap, run from the main terminal in Victoria and cover most coastal roads, though services thin out in the evening and on Sundays.
Carry small change; fares are paid in cash to the driver.
Car
Car hire is widely available on Mahé and Praslin. Driving is on the left, and mountain roads are narrow, steep and winding with deep drains at the edges.
Book a small automatic car; parking at popular beaches is limited.
Ferry
Fast catamarans link Victoria with Praslin in about an hour and Praslin with La Digue in about 15 minutes; crossings to Praslin can be rough in the trade-wind season.
Book ahead in high season and take seasickness tablets if you are prone to it.
Cycling
Bicycles are the main transport on La Digue, rented by the day near the jetty; most of the island is flat apart from the hill to Grand Anse.
Taxi
Taxis wait at the airport, jetties and hotels on Mahé and Praslin; they are convenient but expensive, so agree the fare before departure.
Boat
Licensed boat operators run snorkelling and island trips to Sainte Anne, Curieuse, Cousin and Saint Pierre from Victoria, Beau Vallon and Côte d'Or.
From the airport
Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) is on Mahé's east coast, about 10 km south of Victoria and around 30 minutes by car to Beau Vallon. Domestic flights to Praslin Airport (PRI) take about 15–20 minutes and leave from the domestic terminal next door. Taxis, car hire desks and public buses on the coast road serve the airport.
Do you need a car?
Useful on Mahé and Praslin to reach beaches and trailheads at your own pace, though buses cover the main roads. On La Digue you do not need one; bicycles and walking are the way to get around.
