Day by day

  1. Day 1: Anse Source d'Argent and Grand Anse, Petite Anse and Anse Cocos

Anse Source d'Argent, Grand Anse, Petite Anse and Anse Cocos, Veuve Reserve and Vallée de Mai, then Sunset at Anse Source d'Argent in the evening.

    1. Morning

      Anse Source d'Argent

It is one of the most photographed beaches in the world, and the estate also holds an old copra mill, a vanilla plantation and a giant tortoise pen.

    2. Late morning

Grand Anse, Petite Anse and Anse Cocos

These beaches face the open ocean, with powerful surf for much of the year.

    3. Lunch

      Lunch: Creole fish curry

Creole restaurants across the islands and takeaway counters in Victoria.

    4. Afternoon

      Veuve Reserve

Males have long black tail feathers, and a short trail with an information centre leads through the takamaka and badamier trees where they nest.

    5. Late afternoon

      Vallée de Mai

Marked trails of different lengths wind through the shade, and patient visitors may hear or spot the rare Seychelles black parrot.

    6. Evening

      Sunset at Anse Source d'Argent

Stay on La Digue so you can return to the coves in the late afternoon after the day-trippers leave.

  2. Day 2: Anse Lazio and Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve

Anse Lazio, Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve, Morne Seychellois National Park and Copolia Trail, then Private island stay in the evening.

    1. Morning

      Anse Lazio

Two restaurants sit at the back of the beach.

    2. Late morning

      Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve

It complements the Vallée de Mai with fewer visitors and a longer hike.

    3. Lunch

      Lunch: Octopus curry

Creole restaurants on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

    4. Afternoon

      Morne Seychellois National Park

Trails through mist forest and tea plantations include the short Copolia walk to a granite dome above Victoria, the Morne Blanc trail and the climb to the Trois Frères.

    5. Late afternoon

      Copolia Trail

It is the most rewarding short hike on Mahé.

    6. Evening

      Private island stay

Book a few nights on one of the private-island resorts for complete seclusion.

If it rains

  • Swap in Takamaka Rum distillery (South Mahé): Book a tour with tasting and stay for lunch in the plantation-house restaurant.

Where to stay for this itinerary

$$$ · Best for first-timers, families, beach and budget

Beau Vallon

Mahé's main beach resort area on a long, sheltered north-west bay

Pace and daylight

The sights in this plan add up to roughly 17–24 hours of visiting over 2 days, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 11.9 hours in May to 12.4 hours in January.

Getting between stops: Bus. Public buses on Mahé and Praslin are cheap, run from the main terminal in Victoria and cover most coastal roads, though services thin out in the evening and on Sundays.
