Quick answer
Rhodes Town has the island's most varied nightlife, from Old Town courtyard bars to the clubs and cocktail bars of the New Town. Faliraki is the main resort party strip, while Lindos has late-night bars and terrace clubs in summer. Outside July and August, things are much quieter. What to drink
- Souma — Rhodes's clear grape spirit, distilled from pomace after the wine harvest, similar to tsipouro. The mountain village of Siana is famous for it, along with thyme honey.
- Rhodes wine — The island's PDO wines are made mainly from the white Athiri grape and the red Mandilaria, known locally as Amorgiano. The mountain village of Embonas, below Mount Attavyros, is the centre of winemaking.
Evenings through the year

Getting home late
- Bus — Check the last bus back from Lindos or the south before you set off; evening services are limited.
- Walking — The Old Town, Mandraki Harbour, Elli Beach and Monte Smith are all within a 30-minute walk of each other; the Old Town itself is largely car-free.
- Taxi — In peak season, book a return taxi from Lindos or the south in advance through your hotel.
Late-night bites
- Pitaroudia — Village tavernas and traditional mezedopoleia in the Old Town; ask for them by name if they are not on the menu.
- Pita gyros and souvlaki — Grill counters at the New Market (Nea Agora) by Mandraki Harbour and in every resort.
Staying safe at night
Rhodes is generally relaxed for visitors. Take care with heat and sunburn in July and August, strong currents on windy west-coast beaches, and scooter and quad-bike accidents on narrow roads. Keep an eye on bags in the crowded Old Town lanes when cruise ships are in port.
