Staying near the beach
Getting to the beaches
- Tram — Trams run frequently through the centre and out to Slottsskogen, Liseberg, Saltholmen and Hisingen, and are usually the fastest way across town.
- Ferry — The Älvsnabben ferry crosses the river between Stenpiren and Lindholmen and Eriksberg, and archipelago ferries leave from Saltholmen, all on standard Västtrafik tickets.
- Bus — Buses fill gaps in the tram network and serve outlying areas such as Delsjön; they use the same tickets as trams.
Beach-weather months
Air temperatures rarely reach classic beach weather here: the warmest month, July, averages 21°C (70°F).
Beach safety
Gothenburg is generally calm for visitors, but pickpocketing can occur in crowded places such as Nordstan, Central Station and busy trams. On the archipelago rocks, take care on wet stone and watch the weather before swimming. Swim at lifeguarded beaches where possible and follow local flag warnings.
