Day by day

  1. Day 1: Liseberg and Universeum

Liseberg, Universeum and Götaplatsen and the Poseidon statue, then Avenyn in the evening. Stops at most 0.6 km apart in a straight line.

    1. Morning

      Liseberg

Buy an entry ticket only if you just want the gardens, shows and Christmas market; the ride wristband pays off only if you plan several rides. Allow Half a day to a full day.

    2. Late morning

      Universeum

Start in the rainforest when doors open, before school groups arrive, and work down through the ocean tanks. Allow 3–4 hours.

    3. Lunch

      Lunch: Shrimp sandwich

Feskekôrka, Stora Saluhallen and seafood restaurants along the harbour and in the archipelago.

    4. Afternoon

      Götaplatsen and the Poseidon statue

Stand on the art museum steps for the classic photo down Avenyn, then check the museum's own programme before planning a visit inside. Allow 30 minutes.

    5. Café break

      Café break: Cinnamon bun

    6. Evening

      Avenyn

The main boulevard and its side streets hold the largest nightclubs and terrace bars, busiest on Friday and Saturday nights.

Before you go

  • Liseberg: Prices and opening days vary by season; check the park's calendar and buy tickets online before Christmas-market weekends and summer holidays.

If it rains

  • Swap in Gothenburg Natural History Museum (Slottsskogen): Pair it with the free animal enclosures in Slottsskogen for an easy family day out on a showery afternoon.
  • Swap in Trädgårdsföreningen and the Palm House (Inom Vallgraven): Use it as a green short cut between Central Station and Avenyn, and come in July when the rosarium is in full bloom.
  • Swap in Feskekôrka (Haga): Buy a box of freshly cooked shrimp and eat it on the canal steps outside, or order a räkmacka at one of the counters for lunch.

Pace and daylight

The sights in this plan add up to roughly 7–9 hours of visiting over one day, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 6.6 hours in December to 18 hours in June, so in winter start early and keep museums for the afternoon.

Getting between stops: Tram. Trams run frequently through the centre and out to Slottsskogen, Liseberg, Saltholmen and Hisingen, and are usually the fastest way across town.
