Staying near the beach
Getting to the beaches
- Metro — The tunnelbana has three main lines (green, red and blue) meeting at T-Centralen, with trains every few minutes.
- Ferry — The Djurgården ferry from Slussen to Djurgården is included in SL tickets and is the most scenic way to reach the museums.
- Tram — Tram line 7 runs from T-Centralen along Strandvägen to Djurgården's museums, and the Lidingö line serves Millesgården's island.
- Bus — Buses cover areas between metro lines and run through the night when the metro is closed.
- Boat — Archipelago boats operated by Waxholmsbolaget and private companies leave from Strömkajen and Strandvägen for Vaxholm, Fjäderholmarna, Sandhamn and other islands.
Beach-weather months
Days of 24°C (75°F) or more with no more than nine rainy days come in July. The busiest of those is July, so book early.
Beach safety
Stockholm is generally safe for visitors. Pickpockets operate around T-Centralen, Gamla Stan and Djurgården in summer, so keep bags closed. In winter, icy pavements are the main hazard, and the Baltic and lakes stay cold even in summer, so swim near others. Swim at lifeguarded beaches where possible and follow local flag warnings.
