Getting home late
- Ride-hailing — Grab and Gojek offer cars and motorbike taxis in the south and Ubud; some villages post signs banning app pick-ups, where you will need a local taxi.
- Taxi — Metered Bluebird taxis are reliable in the south; insist on the meter with other companies or agree on a fare first.
- Ferry — Fast boats run from Sanur to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan, and from Padang Bai and Serangan to the Gili Islands and Lombok; public ferries cross to Lombok and Java.
- Walking — Central Ubud, Sanur's seafront path and the beachfronts of Seminyak and Kuta are walkable, but footpaths are uneven or missing on most roads.
Late-night bites
- Sate lilit — Warung, night markets and as part of nasi campur, especially near fishing villages such as Jimbaran.
- Jaje Bali — Morning markets such as Ubud's and Gianyar's, and roadside stalls.
Staying safe at night
The main risks are road accidents, especially on scooters, and strong rip currents on the west and south coasts — swim between the red-and-yellow flags. Monkeys at temples can bite, and illicit arak has caused methanol poisoning.
- Emergency number
- 112 (general emergency), 110 (police), 118 or 119 (ambulance)

Seminyak
Seminyak is the polished part of the south-west coast, with villa hotels, boutiques along Jalan Kayu Aya and Jalan Petitenget, spas and some of Bali's best-known restaurants. The beach is wide and good for sunsets, though the surf is often too strong for weak swimmers. It is 30–60 minutes from the airport depending on traffic.
