Quick answer

Patong's Bangla Road is Phuket's nightlife epicentre, but beach clubs in Bang Tao and Kamala, bars in Phuket Town and relaxed beach bars in Kata and Nai Harn offer calmer evenings. The main areas are Bangla Road, Patong, Bang Tao and Kamala beach clubs, Phuket Town and Kata and Karon.

Getting home late

  • Taxi — Taxis and red 'tuk-tuk' minivans run on negotiated fares, which are high by Thai standards; fixed-price taxi counters operate at the airport.
  • Ride-hailing — Book from your hotel lobby, where drivers can wait easily.
  • Bus — The Phuket Smart Bus runs from the airport down the west coast to Rawai, and blue songthaew buses link Phuket Town's Ranong Road market with the main beaches during the day.

Late-night bites

  • Green papaya salad — Street stalls and casual restaurants everywhere, often with grilled chicken and sticky rice.
  • Pad thai — Street stalls, night markets and restaurants across the island.
  • Roti — Roti stalls in Phuket Town and on the beach roads in the evening.

Staying safe at night

Rip currents cause drownings every year, especially in the May–October monsoon — never swim when red flags fly. Scooter accidents are common, and some jet-ski operators make false damage claims, so photograph equipment before renting.
