Ways to get around

Walking

Most central sights are within walking distance, along wide avenues and through the Ring Park around the centre.

Metro

A single metro line links the centre with outer districts, with stations at Republic Square, Yeritasardakan and Marshal Baghramyan. It is quick and inexpensive.

Ride-hailing

Yandex Go and GG ride-hailing apps are widely used and inexpensive; prices are shown upfront.

Use an app rather than hailing street taxis to avoid overcharging.

Bus

Buses and minibuses cover the city, and marshrutkas run to Garni, Sevan and Dilijan; fares are low and paid on board.

Train

An overnight sleeper train links Yerevan and Tbilisi on a seasonal timetable, and regional trains run to Gyumri.

From the airport

Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) is about 12 km west of the centre; an app taxi takes about 20 minutes, and a city bus links the airport with the centre. Shirak Airport (LWN) in Gyumri, about 120 km north-west, is served by some low-cost flights.

Do you need a car?

No for the city. For day trips, use tours, a driver or marshrutkas; a hire car suits confident drivers exploring further afield.
