Quick answer
The old city around Lal Ghat and the City Palace is compact and best explored on foot, though its lanes are narrow and busy with motorbikes. Auto-rickshaws and ride-hailing taxis cover the rest of the city, and a car with driver is the usual way to make day trips. Not to drive yourself.
