      City Palace

    2. Late morning

      Jagdish Temple

Visit during the morning or evening aarti prayers to hear devotional singing, remove your shoes and dress modestly. Allow 45 minutes.

    3. Lunch

      Lunch: Dal baati churma

Rajasthani thali restaurants in the old city and around Bapu Bazaar.

    4. Afternoon

Arrive early for the evening dance show to get a seat on the cushions near the front. Allow 1.5–2 hours.

    5. Late afternoon

      Gangaur Ghat

Sit on the steps in the early morning to watch the city wake up, with pigeons, bathers and boats on the lake. Allow 30 minutes.

    6. Evening

      Ambrai Ghat

Come after sunset for the lights on the City Palace and the Lake Palace, and keep to the steps rather than the slippery edge.

If it rains

  • Swap in Vintage and Classic Car Collection (Gulab Bagh): Combine it with the Gulab Bagh gardens next door, and visit in the afternoon heat as it is indoors.
  • Swap in Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal (Fateh Sagar Lake): Time your visit for one of the puppet shows, a highlight for children.
