Nightlife tips
- Take a taxi to and from the Gros Islet street party and keep valuables to a minimum.
- Many bars outside Rodney Bay close early; plan dinner and drinks together.
What to drink
- Cocoa tea — A spiced hot drink made by grating local cocoa sticks into milk with cinnamon, nutmeg and bay leaf; a traditional breakfast drink.
- Piton beer — The island's own lager, brewed in Saint Lucia and named after the Pitons; served ice-cold everywhere.
- Saint Lucian rum — Rums distilled at Roseau in the west of the island, including spiced and aged styles, and used in rum punch.
Evenings through the year
Sunset and the overnight low decide how long the outdoor part of a night lasts. April has the warmest evenings, with lows around 23°C (73°F).
| Month | Sunset (15th) | Overnight low | Rainy days |
|---|---|---|---|

Getting home late
- Taxi — Taxi drivers often double as tour guides for a full-day island tour.
- Bus — Privately run minibuses run fixed routes between towns, such as Castries to Gros Islet or Vieux Fort, departing when full.
- Ferry — A high-speed ferry links Castries with Martinique and other neighbouring islands on scheduled days.
Late-night bites
- Accra — Friday fish fries at Gros Islet and Anse La Raye, and local snack bars.
Staying safe at night
Petty theft and persistent vendors are the most common issues; keep valuables secure and use licensed taxis at night. Swim on the calmer west coast, as Atlantic beaches on the east coast have strong currents, and hike steep trails with a guide.
