Free things to do
- Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel — The parish church's pink cantera-stone façade and spires were added in the late 19th century by Zeferino Gutiérrez, a local self-taught mason said to have worked from pictures of European Gothic churches.
- El Jardín — The main square in front of the Parroquia is filled with clipped laurel trees, wrought-iron benches and a central bandstand.
- Centro Cultural Ignacio Ramírez (Bellas Artes) — The former convent of La Concepción now houses an arts centre around a large cloister with fountains and orange trees.
- Templo de la Concepción (Las Monjas) — The convent church of the Conceptionist nuns has one of the tallest domes in San Miguel, ringed by columns and statues and visible from rooftops all over town.
- Templo de San Francisco — A few blocks from the Jardín, the Franciscan church has an elaborate churrigueresque façade of carved saints and columns from the late 18th century, topped by a later neoclassical tower.
- Calle Aldama — This narrow cobbled street running south from the Parroquia is lined with pastel façades, carved doorways and bougainvillea, and it frames the church spires at its northern end.
