What to drink
- West Coast IPA — San Diego's breweries helped define the bitter, piney, clear West Coast style of India pale ale, and the county has well over 100 breweries and tasting rooms.

- Bus — MTS buses fill the gaps, including routes to Balboa Park, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach and La Jolla, though journeys to the beaches can be slow.
- Ferry — The Coronado Ferry crosses the bay from Broadway Pier and the Convention Center to the Coronado Ferry Landing in about 15 minutes, with skyline views.
Late-night bites
- California burrito — Independent taco shops across the city, especially in Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach and North Park.
- Baja fish tacos — Beach-area taco counters in Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach, and seafood restaurants on Point Loma's Shelter Island.
- Carne asada fries — The same 24-hour taco shops that sell California burritos.
- Rolled tacos — Taco shops citywide and Mexican restaurants around Old Town.
Staying safe at night
Leave nothing visible in parked cars at beaches and viewpoints, where break-ins happen. Rip currents are common, so swim near staffed lifeguard towers, and keep back from crumbling cliff edges at Sunset Cliffs and La Jolla.
- Emergency number
- 911 (police, fire, ambulance)
