Quick answer
San Antonio nights are relaxed: margaritas on the River Walk, live music on the St. Mary's Strip and at the Pearl, and dance halls outside town. Big concerts and Spurs games add energy downtown. The main areas are River Walk, St. Mary's Strip, Pearl and Southtown.

What to drink
- Margarita — Tequila, lime and orange liqueur, served on the rocks or frozen, often with a salted rim. On a hot River Walk evening it is the default order.
Evenings through the year
Sunset and the overnight low decide how long the outdoor part of a night lasts. August has the warmest evenings, with lows around 23°C (73°F).
| Month | Sunset (15th) | Overnight low | Rainy days |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | About 17:57 | 5°C (41°F) | 7 |

Getting home late
- Walking — The River Walk is the most pleasant way to move around downtown and continues north to the Pearl and south to King William and the missions.
- Bus — VIA Metropolitan Transit runs buses across the city, including routes from downtown to the missions, Brackenridge Park and the airport.
- Ride-hailing — Uber and Lyft are widely available and the simplest way to reach the Pearl, Alamo Heights and the West Side food spots.
Staying safe at night
Summer heat is the main hazard: carry water and avoid long midday walks from June to September. Heavy rain can cause sudden flash flooding in the region, so never drive through water over a road, and leave nothing visible in parked cars.
- Emergency number
