Getting home late

  • Tram — Tap a METRO Q Card or buy tickets in the METRO app before boarding; there are no conductors selling tickets.
  • Bus — METRO buses cover the whole city, including express routes to both airports, but journeys between neighbourhoods can be slow.
  • Ride-hailing — Uber and Lyft are the practical way to reach Montrose, the Heights, Chinatown and the Galleria from the rail line.

Late-night bites

  • Mahatma Gandhi District chaat and biryani — The Mahatma Gandhi District around Hillcroft Avenue and Harwin Drive in south-west Houston.

Staying safe at night

Heat and humidity are the main hazards most of the year. Heavy rain floods streets and underpasses quickly, so never drive into standing water, and follow official advice during hurricane season. Car break-ins are common; leave nothing visible in parked cars.
