What to drink
- Bellet wine — One of France's smallest appellations, grown on the hills just inside Nice's city limits. Its whites from the Rolle grape and its rosés are made in small quantities and rarely leave the region.

Getting home late
- Tram — Validate your ticket every time you board; inspectors fine passengers without validated tickets.
- Walking — The old town, the Promenade, Place Masséna and the port are all within about 20 minutes' walk of each other.
- Bus — Lignes d'Azur buses serve the hills (Cimiez, Mont Boron) and coastal villages such as Èze and Villefranche, using the same tickets as the tram.
- Taxi — Agree on or check the fare structure before long rides, as trips along the coast can add up quickly.
Late-night bites
- Socca — Counters in Vieux Nice and around the Cours Saleya and the port; it is best straight from the oven, so watch for a fresh tray.
- Pan bagnat — Bakeries and sandwich counters in the old town and near the beaches; buy one in the morning before heading to the sea.
- Pissaladière — Bakeries and snack counters across Vieux Nice and at the Cours Saleya market.
- Courgette flower fritters — Niçoise restaurants in the old town and stalls at the Cours Saleya in season.
Staying safe at night
Pickpocketing and bag theft are the main issues, especially on the Promenade, in the old town, at the station and on crowded trams and trains in summer. Watch for distraction tricks, and be careful of cyclists on the Promenade's cycle lane.

It is where you eat socca standing at a counter, buy olive oil and candied fruit, and drink on terraces late into the evening. The beach and Promenade are two minutes away through the arcades of the Ponchettes.
