Money-saving tips
- The Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Via Dolorosa, the Mount of Olives and Yad Vashem are all free.
- Pilgrim hospices and guesthouses in the Old City are often better value than hotels outside the walls.
- Eat a big hummus or falafel lunch and shop for picnic supplies at Mahane Yehuda.
- Avoid Easter, Passover and Sukkot if you want lower room rates; prices peak then.
- Use the light rail and walk rather than taking taxis between central sights.
