Day by day
Day 1: Hallasan National Park and Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak)
Hallasan National Park, Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak), Manjanggul Lava Tube and Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff, then Cheonjiyeon Waterfall in the evening.
Morning
Hallasan National Park
Only two trails reach the top: Seongpanak (about 9.6 km one way, gentle but long) and Gwaneumsa (about 8.7 km, steeper and more scenic). The shorter Yeongsil and Eorimok trails climb to the Witse-oreum plateau at about 1,700 m, with royal azaleas in late spring and rime ice in winter.
Late morning
Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak)
A stepped path climbs to the rim in 20–30 minutes, revealing a bowl-shaped crater about 600 m across. Haenyeo divers usually give demonstrations and sell fresh catch at the cove below the peak.
Lunch
Lunch: Jeju black pork
Dedicated barbecue houses across Jeju City and Seogwipo, including the cluster of restaurants on Jeju City's Black Pork Street; staff usually grill and cut the meat for you.
Afternoon
Manjanggul Lava Tube
The walk ends at a lava column about 7.6 m tall, and the cave stays cool and damp all year, so it is a good escape from summer heat or rain.
Late afternoon
Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff
A boardwalk and viewing decks look down on waves breaking over the columns, which can reach 20 m or more in height.
Evening
Cheonjiyeon Waterfall
Visit after dark when the path is lit and tour groups have gone, then walk to the Saeseom bridge for harbour lights.
Day 2: Jeongbang Waterfall and Jeju Olle Trail Route 7
Jeongbang Waterfall, Jeju Olle Trail Route 7, Hyeopjae Beach and Hamdeok Beach and Seoubong, then Jeju Dongmun Traditional Market in the evening.
Morning
Jeongbang Waterfall
Stairs lead down to the boulders at its base, where you can feel the spray and see the falls framed against the ocean.
Late morning
Jeju Olle Trail Route 7
Route 7, west of Seogwipo, is among the most popular: about 17 km past Oedolgae sea stack, cliff paths and small coves, easily shortened to a half-day section.
Lunch
Lunch: Cold raw-fish soup
Seafood restaurants around Bomok harbour near Seogwipo, best in the summer damselfish season.
Afternoon
Hyeopjae Beach
Neighbouring Geumneung Beach is quieter, and a pine grove behind the sand gives shade for picnics.
Late afternoon
Hamdeok Beach and Seoubong
Behind it, the small Seoubong hill has a 20-minute walking loop with views back over the bay and fields of canola in spring.
Evening
Jeju Dongmun Traditional Market
Come after about 6pm for the night-market food stalls, and buy boxed hallabong here to take home rather than at the airport.
Before you go
- Hallasan National Park: Summit hikes on the Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa trails have required a free advance online reservation in recent years; check the official national park site before you go.
T-money and other Korean transit cards
Rechargeable cards bought at convenience stores that work on Jeju buses as well as on mainland subways, and give a small discount on fares.
If it rains
- Swap in Jeju Stone Park (Jocheon): Start in the indoor museum to understand the island's geology, then walk the outdoor circuit, which takes about an hour.
- Swap in Haenyeo Museum (Hamdeok and Gujwa): Pair it with lunch of abalone porridge at a haenyeo-run restaurant along the Hado or Jongdal coast.
- Swap in Jeju 4.3 Peace Park (Jeju City): Allow time for the exhibition hall, which is clearly laid out with English panels, and visit before rather than after a beach day.
Where to stay for this itinerary
$$ · Best for first-timers, budget and food lovers
Jeju City Old Town
Dongmun Market, the Tapdong seafront and the old provincial office around Gwandeokjeong
Pace and daylight
The sights in this plan add up to roughly 17–22 hours of visiting over 2 days, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 9.9 hours in December to 14.4 hours in June, so in winter start early and keep museums for the afternoon.
Getting between stops: Car. Rental companies operate from depots near the airport, reached by shuttle buses from the arrivals hall.
