Day-trip tips

  • Leave early: most trips are more relaxed with a morning departure and a return before dinner.
  • Kadamba state buses and private buses connect towns and beach villages cheaply from hubs at Panaji, Mapusa and Margao, but routes can be slow and crowded.
  • Konkan Railway stations at Thivim (north), Karmali (Old Goa), Madgaon (south) and Canacona (near Palolem) link Goa with Mumbai, Kerala and Karnataka.
  • For trips over about 180 km, an overnight stay or an organised tour saves a lot of travelling.
