  • October, March and April offer good weather with much lower prices than December.
  • Eat lunch at local fish-thali restaurants rather than tourist shacks.

  • Choose your arrival airport according to where you are staying to avoid long taxi rides.

Free things to do

  • Fontainhas Latin Quarter — Panaji's oldest quarter is a maze of narrow lanes lined with yellow, blue and ochre Portuguese-era houses with tiled roofs and balconies.

Getting around for less

Goa has no metro, and mainstream ride-hailing apps do not operate in most of the state. Visitors get around by taxi, the state-backed GoaMiles app, rented scooters, buses and motorcycle taxis known as pilots; river ferries cross to islands, and trains link the larger towns.
