Quick answer
Glasgow is one of the UK's great nights out, with a live-music scene spanning small rock venues, folk sessions and arena tours, plus late-opening pubs and clubs. Pubs usually close around midnight, with clubs open until about 3am. The main areas are Merchant City, Sauchiehall Street and Bath Street, West End and Finnieston.

What to drink
- Irn-Bru — Scotland's bright orange soft drink is made by A.G. Barr, a company with deep roots in the Glasgow area, and outsells many global brands in Scotland. Locals swear by it as a hangover cure.
- Scotch whisky — Glasgow sits near the Lowland distilleries and has whisky bars with hundreds of single malts; the Clydeside Distillery by the Riverside Museum offers tours and tastings.
Evenings through the year
Sunset and the overnight low decide how long the outdoor part of a night lasts. July has the warmest evenings, with lows around 11°C (52°F).

|---|---|---|---|
| January | About 16:15 | 2°C (36°F) | 16 |
| April | About 20:23 | 4°C (39°F) | 11 |

Getting home late
- Metro — Use the Outer Circle or Inner Circle — whichever is fewer stops — since both directions reach every station.
- Walking — Most central sights, from the cathedral to George Square and the Merchant City, are 10–20 minutes apart on foot, and the Clyde Walkway and River Kelvin paths connect the centre with the West End.
- Bus — Contactless payment is accepted on most city buses.
- Taxi — Black cabs can be hailed in the street or found at ranks outside Central and Queen Street stations, and ride-hailing apps also operate in the city.
Late-night bites
- Square sausage roll — Bakeries and sandwich shops near stations and offices; ask for a 'roll and square'.
- Scotch pie — Bakeries across the city and food kiosks at Hampden, Celtic Park and Ibrox on match days.
Staying safe at night
Glasgow is generally welcoming for visitors, but keep an eye on bags in busy shopping streets and late-night areas. Some streets around the city centre can be rowdy at closing time on weekend nights, and football match days bring large crowds.

It is a short walk to Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis one way and the shopping streets the other.
