Boston nightlife
Where the evenings happen in Boston, from early drinks to late nights.
Updated By the AMZBooking editorial team
Quick answer
Boston's nightlife leans on pubs, live music, sports bars and cocktail lounges rather than big clubs, with a large student crowd. Bars stop serving at 2am, and the T stops running a little before that. The main areas are Fenway and Lansdowne Street, Faneuil Hall and the Financial District, Seaport District, Cambridge and South End.

Getting home late
- Metro — Tap a contactless bank card or phone at the faregate, or load a reusable CharlieCard.
- Walking — The Freedom Trail, North End, Beacon Hill, Back Bay and the waterfront are all within about a 30-minute walk of each other.
- Bus — The Silver Line connects South Station with the Seaport and Logan Airport, and MBTA buses cover the gaps between subway lines.
- Ferry — The short Charlestown ferry costs about the same as a subway ride and gives a fine view of the harbour.
- Ride-hailing — Taxis and ride-hailing apps are useful late at night and for the airport, but downtown traffic and one-way streets make short rides slow at rush hour.
Late-night bites
- North Shore roast beef — Kelly's Roast Beef on Revere Beach, open since 1951, a short walk from the Blue Line.
Staying safe at night
Boston's central neighbourhoods are generally comfortable for visitors; usual city precautions apply around busy stations such as Downtown Crossing late at night. In winter, nor'easter storms can bring heavy snow and flight disruption, and in summer the sea stays cold, so swim only at guarded beaches.
- Emergency number
- 911 (police, fire, ambulance)
